My Two Study Abroad Experiences!

Hindu Theology & Buddhist Philosophy in Nepal - January 2019

Daily Life
-
Wake up around 7 AM each morning
-
Eat a group breakfast at our hotel then make our way, usually walking, to our site visit for the day
-
One of the more memorable sites was a monkey temple that we had to climb up over 600 steps to make it to the top
-
After we got back from our site visit the day was ours to go off on our own
Site Visits
-
Everyday we went to see and experience a new site
-
Most commonly visited temples and monasteries to learn about Hindu & Buddhist theology and traditions, including the birthplace of the Buddha (shown to the right)
-
In addition to to visiting temples we were fortunate enough to have unique cultural experiences such as eating breakfast with a refugee family from Tibet

Natural Beauty
-
Nepal boasts some of the most spectacular natural beauty in the world
-
Nepal is located in the Himalayas, the tallest mountain range in the world
-
As part of our program we had the opportunity to take an optional mountain site seeing flight which included a flyby of Mount Everest
-
We also got to hike through the foothills of the Himalayas, go to a lake city called Pokhara and see amazing waterfalls

London Business Semester - Fall 2019

Daily Life
-
Throughout our time in London we live in home-stays
-
In order to get to classes we all had to take the busses and the tube
-
Most days we had class in the morning and afternoon, then we had the evenings to ourselves.
-
On Wednesdays everyone started their days volunteering at different sites. My volunteer site was an Anglican school in the Wapping neighborhood of London
Weekends
-
Weekends and Breaks were spent traveling to different cities and countries across Europe
-
I spent weekends in Germany, Scotland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Hungary, Spain, Iceland and Poland
-
Germany was the first trip I was able to go on where me and 15 other Tommies attended Oktoberfest in Munich
-
Budapest was my favorite city that I visited as it has some beautiful and grand architecture paired with amazing and cheap food

Classes & Group Excursions
-
I took 4 classes while studying abroad at University College London, each taught by a St. Thomas professor
-
The classes were unlike any other classes I had in college as I personally knew each and every person in my classes which made classes more exciting to attend
-
In addition to classes we took a group trip to Scotland, visited the 3M office in England, and took a tour of Lloyd's of London
