Admissions

Admissions

To say admissions has been a part of my college careers would be a major understatement. I have been a member of the admissions team at St. Thomas from the moment I moved onto campus all the way back in August 2017! Take a look at my two main roles within admissions!

Tommie Ambassadors

I started my time at St. Thomas as a Tommie Ambassador. Tommie Ambassadors is a team of undergraduate students at the University of St. Thomas who volunteer their time to work at large admissions events to make prospective students want to come to St. Thomas. Tommie Ambassadors is not only how I started my college career but it's where I made my first college friends. Take a look at what we do:

  • Fall Tommie Days - A large admissions event where over 1000 prospective students come for a tour of campus. Tommie Ambassadors give those tours and work the check-in desk

  • Spring Junior Visit Day - Similar to Fall Tommie Days except every student at this event is a Junior in high school. Tommie Ambassadors give these tours as well and work the check-in desk

  • Admitted Tommie Experience - This is the admissions event where accepted students can come and spend a day and night on campus. A Tommie Ambassador, who lives on campus, would host prospective students in their dorm or apartment overnight. Tommie Ambassadors also help with activities at these overnights like Kahoot! and Nacho Bingo

  • Summer Training - The week before school begins, Tommie Ambassadors have an all team training where we meet the new team members, divide into cohorts, go over the changes in the admissions process and on campus, and finally have a relay race that ends with us smashing a frozen T-shirt in the fountain until we someone cut wear it. After our training is done we all received a free trip to the Minnesota State Fair!

Tour Guides

I became a tour guide in Spring 2020 during my Junior year. I did not want to be a tour guide because it was my least favorite part of being a Tommie Ambassador. My friend Cameron convinced me to do it by reminding me that I had no money when I came back from my semester abroad. However, I could not be more thankful for the opportunity. It is really exciting to get to meet and show prospective students around campus. In addition, I have made some great friends, who are other tour guides, which are friendships I never would've made otherwise.

Starting in Fall 2020, I became a Tour Guide Shift Lead. This meant that I not only had to give tours but I am responsible for making sure other guides come in when scheduled and for writing and addressing thank you notes to prospective students and their families. Being a shift lead has given me the opportunity to meet more tour guides because I have to come in for every shift I am able to. My. experience being a tour guide has really allowed me to grow as a person because I interact with new people from different backgrounds and it is one of my first experiences being a leader in the workplace.
